Vettel on POLE for Mexican Grand Prix – Hamilton starts THIRD

Sebastian Vettel drove his Ferrari to pole position for the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in second. Lewis Hamilton starts third.

Lewis Hamilton is on the cusp of a record-breaking fourth driver’s title, but Sebastian Vettel isn’t making it easy for Hamilton, grabbing pole for the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix.

But it’s not just Vettel in front of Hamilton on the grid, it’s Red Bull’s Max Verstappen too in second spot having nearly clinched pole himself before Vettel pulled out a lap which squeezed him in to second by just 0.086s.

Behind the top three it’s Bottas in fourth – loudly complaining Verstappen wrecked his best lap – and Kimmi Raikkonen managing just fifth in his Ferrari.

Ocon did a sterling job in the Fore India to grab sixth place from Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo – who complained on no grip from his car – with the Renaults of Hulkenberg and Sainz behind Ricciardo, and the last top ten place taken bu the Fore India of Perez.

Outside the top ten, the Williams cars are 11th and 12th, and the McLarens of Alonso and Vandoorne start at the back after not setting a time in Q2 after they chose to save their engines.

But despite Vettel’s pole for the race, the odds are that Hamilton will take his fourth title in Mexico, needing to finish just fifth or better even if Vettel wins.
