The Volkswagen Golf Mk8’s arrival is imminent
The new Volkswagen Golf Mk 8 will finally be revealed on 24 October 2019, as VW remembers it has another big reveal to do after the electric ID 3.
What’s happened to the VW Golf Mk 8, you may well ask? Well, as we already know, the cornerstone of the VW business has been put back for a variety of reasons – including, perhaps, issues with software – but mainly because Volkswagen considered the arrival of their first EV – the VW ID 3 – the priority. That’s because VW consider the ID 3 to be the third ‘Reich’ for VW, a new age for the company and following on from the Beetle and Golf as the cornerstone of the brand.
Whether that’s wishful thinking as VW aim to deliver a huge volume of electric cars there’s not yet a market for remains to be seen, but however successful the ID 3 proves to be, the MK 8 Golf is going to be the seller, and the mainstay, of VW for some time to come.
So, having finally introduced the world to the ID 3, VW are now planning to reveal the new Golf Mk 8 at an event in Wolfsburg on 24 October at 5pm (UK time). And they’ve already started building it.
The looks of the new Golf will be an evolution, but underpinning it will be lots of new technology and connectivity, and a range of engines featuring electrical assistance.
Bu although there will be a plug-in Golf Mk8, there won’t be an electric Golf as that’s now entirely down to the ID 3 to deliver.
Full details on the new VW Golf 8 will arrive in three weeks.
