Volvo S90 Ambience Concept
The Volvo S90 Ambience Concept is heading for a debut at the Beijing Motor Show as Volvo demonstrates it can take the sybaritic luxury in the S90 Excellence to another level.
The Volvo S90 is already a cracking big-ish saloon in a world where saloon cars aren’t exactly flavour of the month, offering a very appealing combination of understated looks, cool cabin and ride comfort which puts much of the competition in the shade. That makes it a pretty good car to use as a chauffeur jobbie, especially for those clients who want to travel in comfort but don’t want to shout ‘Look at me’ as they glide around in a de-badged S-Class.
Although not on offer in the UK, Volvo took the rear seat passenger cossetting to another level with the S90 Excellence, and now they’ve decided there’s room to cosset further, especially for the Chinese market, and are previewing the next level on from the Excellence with a new concept at the Beijing Motor Show – the Volvo S90 Ambience.
Volvo say the S90 Ambience is an ‘Industry First Sensory Experience’ using sound, smells and visuals to take in-car luxury to another level, and it certainly looks set to make travelling in the back of an S90 a whole new experience.
Using an App, passengers (those in the back – they’re the only ones that count) can choose from seven visual themes which come with audio and scent and which transforms the car’s ceiling according to the theme, with everything from a Nocturnal offering to a boosting Freedom setup by way of stuff like Northern Lights, Scandinavian Forest and Rain.
Audi plays through the Bowers and Wilkins Sound, and scent is delivered to enhance the ambience with a set of four bespoke offerings from Byredo.
It may all seem a bit OTT, but Volvo seem convinced enough that it will enhance the S90 Excellence, and it looks like this S90 Ambience will turn in to a real Volvo option. Well, for the Excellence models anyway.
