Used car magazine are saying that current used Saab prices represent a terrific bargain and are unlikely to remain so low, despite concerns over Saab’s future.
The headline sounds a bit like something GM have dreamed up to shift remaining stock. But it’s not. It’s the advice that comes from UK used car experts ‘Used Car Magazine’. They reckon that used Saabs are an unbelievable bargain – and they may have a point.
As an example they use a 2 year old Saab 9-3 2.0t as an example. UCM say that you can pick one up for as little as £11,000 with average mileage. By comparison, you’d only get a four year old BMW 320 ES for the same sort of money.
But how sensible would it be to buy one, with Saab potentially on the brink of eclipse, a situation that is similar in many ways for the market in used Rovers a few years ago around the time of the ‘Phoenix’ debacle?
It would seem that used Rover prices are now much fimer than they were and, in all fairness, Saabs are – and are preceived as – higher quality cars. So the current doldrums in used prices look like a temporary downturn which will change as soon as the fate of Saab is known. Whichever way that goes.
So the message is clear enough. If you want a bargain – and you fancy a Saab – best to do it sooner rather than later.
