Nissan GT-R – the Hybrid

Nissan GT-R. The next generation will sport Hybrid technology and 600bhp.

It’s being reported that the next generation Nissan GT-R will come as a hybrid with electric motor offering a combined 600bhp.

We’ve only just had the news that the UK and Europe are to get a limited run of the mighty Nissan GT-R SpecV Supercar, and now we learn that Nissan is planning something of  a surprise for the next generation GT-R – a hybrid.

But this won’t be a Prius-type eco-hybrid, rather one that will utilise the benefits of hybrid technology to yield more power and performance – our type of hybrid.

Best Car Magazine in Japan – the same people who claimed Toyota are to build a new Hybrid MR2 – are claiming that Nissan are planning on reducing the conventional power of the Nissan GT-R when the next generation arrives, but supplementing it by adding an electric motor.

The next generation GT-R will get slightly fewer horses – 440, down from 480 – but will add to that an additional 160 horses from the electric motor, giving a total of 600 horses – 120 more than the current GT-R manages.

The performance of the GT-R is already incredible – particularly for a sub £60k car – so it’s going to have one or two supercar makers suffering sleepless nights at the prospect of a GT-R with 600 bhp.

Frankly, if the reports are true, there is going to be little to touch the next generation Nissan GT-R short of the most hyper of Hypercars.
