Renault Kaptur (pictured) – Russia’s Captur with a ‘K’
The Renault Kaptur has been revealed as a new bigger take on the Captur SUV for the Russian market with four-wheel drive.
The Russian car market may have had its problems of late, but that’s not stopping Renault delivering a new SUV to the vast Russian market with this, the Renault Kaptur, a Captur with a ‘K’ designed specifically for Russia. The Kaptur is bigger than its Captur sibling – 211mm longer, 35mm wider and 46mm taller – and has a wheelbase that’s 66mm longer too.
The increase in height is down to the additional ground clearance to cope with Russian roads (which are even worse than the UK’s), which is 204mm on the Kaptur, up from 163mm in the Captur, and Renault has also fitted heavy duty suspension and an all-wheel drive setup with locking centre differential.
Styling changes include longer back doors and a bigger side window in the cargo area, a wider grill with a big Renault logo, C-shaped LED driving lights, a re-profiled bonnet and new LED tail lights.
Inside, the Kaptur looks much like the Captur, but Renault has added a few extras to cope with harsh Russian weather including a heated windscreen, heated front seats and a remote start so owners can warm up the car before they arrive.
The Renault Kaptur starts production this summer in Moscow and is being offered just in Russia and the CIS countries (bits of the old USSR like Armenia, Belarus and Uzbekistan).
