2014 Honda Civic Tourer arrives ahead of Frankfurt debut

The new Honda Civic Tourer – previewed by the Civic Tourer Concept in March – has been revealed ahead of a public debut at Frankfurt next month.

When the Honda Civic Tourer Concept was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March, we did comment it seemed likely the new Civic Tourer would arrive in production guise at the Frankfurt Show in September. And so it is.

Honda has revealed the production version of the 2014 Civic Tourer this morning, a month before its public debut at Frankfurt, and it looks a very appealing option for families.

As you’d expect, the stuff that made the Civic Tourer Concept stand out – the big alloys, rear diffuser and some of its LEDs –  have been sacrificed on the alter of production reality, but the basic shape – which is good – remains, as does the carrying capacity.

That carrying capacity is 624 litres with the seats up and a cavernous 1668 litres with the seats down. You also get Honda’s ‘Magic Seats’ which let you flip the back seat squabs up to wheel in a bike or buggy where the back seats would be.

From the B-Pillars forward the Civic Tourer is pure Honda Civic, but the stylish shed on the back does make it a much more practical option for families with stuff to move.

Trim levels on the Touring will be the same as the Hatch, but engines on offer will, at least initially, be limited to the 1.6 i-DTEC and the 1.8 i-VTEC engine with manual or automatic transmission.

There will also be the option of what Honda say is a world first – adaptive dampers just for the back so you can tweak ride and handling whatever you’ve got in the back.

The new 204 Honda Civic Tourer will debut at Frankfurt before going on sale by the end of 2013, and arrive in Honda’s UK showrooms in early 2014. Expect it to cost from the right side of £20,000.
