The 2015 Mazda2 will cost from £11,995 to £17,395 with a choice of five trim levels, petrol and diesel engines and high levels of safety technology.

The 2015 Mazda2 arrived in Japan in July (as the Demio) and now it’s about to go on sale in the UK with prices starting from £11,995.

Mazda’s take on the Ford Fiesta has always been better than sale would suggest, and the new Mazda2 has plenty to offer, including an efficient range of petrol and diesel engines, wide selection of trim options and plenty of technology.

Mazda is offering a choice of 1.5 litre petrol and diesel engines which, thanks to Skyactiv technology, offer similar economy to the smaller 3-pot engines starting to proliferate from other car makers in a quest to offer performance and impressive economy.

Entry-level is the 1.5 litre petrol with 74bhp and 60.1mpg mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, but the more powerful 89bhp version offers better economy and lower emissions – 62.8mpg and 105g/km when specced with the five-speed manual – with the most powerful 113bhp version delivering 57.6mpg and 115g/km.

But the most popular engine in nthe Uk will probably be the 1.5 litre diesel which manages to offer 103bhp, 83.1mpg and 89g/km.

Trim levels start with the Mazda2 SE which comes with Aircon, running lights, height-adjustable driver’s seat, CD and rear roof spoiler, with the SE-L adding 15″ alloys, Fogs, power folding heated door mirrors, leather steering wheel, split-fold back seats and Bluetooth.

Sport and Sport Nav get 16″ alloys, Privacy, Auto lights adn wipers, rear parking sensors, LED headlights and LED running lights (on the 115PS Sports Nav only), black sports cloth and SatNav for the Nav model.

There’s also a launch edition which costs from £14,995 and gets 16″ alloys, privacy, auto lights and wipers, rear parking sensors, 7″ colour screen, Multimedia Commander, SatNav and DAB.

All models come with a pretty comprehensive safety and security spec including Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control System (TCS), Emergency Stop Signalling (ESS), Hill Hold Assist (HHA), Front, side and curtain airbags and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), with the 90PS SE-L, Sport, Sport Nav, and Sports Launch Edition models also getting Lane Departure Warning System (LDW) and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS).

The 2015 Mazda2 goes on sale in the UK in early 2015.
