Range Rover Velar SVR caught at Nurburgring as Land Rover test the Velar’s SVR power (video)

The Range Rover Velar SVR has been caught on video testing at the Nurburgring as Land Rover test the potent SVR take on their new Velar.

It’s just three months since the Range Rover Velar SUV arrived as Land Rover looked to fill the hole in their range between the Evoque and Sport.

Heralding a new styling direction, the Velar is the best-looking Range Rover to date, and Land Rover clearly have high hopes that its sleek look will resonate with buyers who perhaps wouldn’t have pitched up and bought the Evoque or Velar.

But having a sleek and appealing model which, despite still being able off-road, is more road-focussed than any other Land Rover, does mean a performance halo version is a must, and Land Rover are already hard at work developing exactly that.

The Range Rover Velar SVR has been caught blatting round the Nurburgring (below) as Land Rover work to make it as effective as their other SVR models, and it’s clearly inherited the power and SVR modifications of LR’s other halo performance models.

From what we can see, the Velar SVR looks to have a new diffuser at the back between a pair of new exhaust tail pipes, bigger brakes, new bumpers and bigger air intakes.

The noise tells us this Velar SVR will be running Land Rover’s Supercharged V8, which could have as much as the new XE SVR Project 8 (592bhp), but is much more likely to boast the same 542bhp version as the Range Rover Sport SVR.

Sister car under the skin to the Jaguar F-Pace SVR – which is expected to get the F-Type SVR’s 567bhp V8 – the slightly more modest power makes sense for the Velar.

With the new Velar already revealed and heading for Land Rover’s showrooms, the Velar SVR is expected to be revealed early in 2018, with prices probably starting from around £85k.
