New Volvo XC40 to be REVEALED on 21 September 2017 – and it’s LEAKED out already
The new Volvo XC40, Volvo’s new compact SUV, will finally be revealed on 21 September 2017 as Volvo take aim at the more compact Premium SUV market.
But the car which will potentially explode sales for Volvo is the new compact SUV – the Volvo XC40.
The Volvo XC40 has been on its way for some time, and we’ve not only had the original concepts of the new XC40 and S40 (below), but we’ve also had a, slightly left-field, set of teases too.
Those teases could well accelerate in the next week as Volvo has now announced it will be revealing the new XC40 next week – 21 September 2017 – and we already have the firts leaked photo of the XC40 (above).
Underpinned by Volvo’s new compact platform – and sharing much with the new Lynk and Co cars – the XC40 looks set to offer a real challenge to cars like the Range Rover Evoque, with Volvo’s very Swedish take on ‘Premium’.
Volvo has already declared that much of the technology from the new 90 and 60 Series cars will find its way in to the XC40, and it will also see Volvo’s 1.5 litre three-cylinder take on their Drive E engines arrive.
They will be available in diesel and petrol guises, but perhaps the most interesting will be the XC40 T5 Twin Engine, mating a 1.5 litre three-pot Drive-E engine to an electric motor to deliver as much as 200bhp, as well as an electric XC40 in the offing too.
Volvo will be delivering the XC40 in Momentum, R-Design and Inscription trim levels, with the Momentum aimed at funky younger buyers, the Inscription at older buyers looking for luxury and the R-Design at those wanting a ‘Sporty’ XC40.
No doubt we will get more teases on the new XC40 in the next week.

It was a tease video from Volvo which looks to have been posted by accident on Volvo Hungary’s Facebook. It showed tight shots of the new XC40 (including the grab used as the image at the top of this article), but it looks like the FB video has now been deleted.

Doesn’t matter. This is likely an old concept photo. Volvo has released a beautiful Video on You Tube called “commuting made easy” (up for nearly two weeks) which clearly shows the front, side and rear of the car while moving and parking. Unless there are two rooflines (one for Inscription, which was shown and one for R-design that this is), which I seriously doubt, but hey anything is possible, this is NOT the new vehicle, as that video does not show the extreme kick up to the C-pillar in the rear quarter. The Video shows what appears to be a very attractive shortened XC60, which is very welcome compared to this.

The Volvo in the ‘Commuting’ video is the new XC60, not the XC40. And the video the photo at the top of the article came from was an accidentally released Volvo video. But who knows – you might be right!
