Alfa Romeo plans include a new Alfa 8C
Alfa Romeo has big plans for the next few years, including the return of the Alfa 8C as a 700bhp mid-engined supercar and the return of the GTV badge on a 600bhp Giulia Coupe.
FCA’s new roadmap for the future already includes a mighty electric Maserati Alfieri, but a supercar-bashing electric Maserati isn’t the only performance car on the cards. On the way, we hope for real, are a pair of high-performance cars from Alfa Romeo – a new Alfa 8C and a new Alfa GTV.
The new Alfa 8C – last seen as a front-engined V8 Coupe – will make its comeback, only this time it will be a two-seater, mid-engined supercar with a carbon fibre chassis and four-wheel drive delivering something over 700bhp. Which could upset Ferrari.
Alfa say the new 8C will arrive by 2022 and be good for a sub-3 seconds to 62mph.
Also on the cards is a revival of another Alfa badge from yesteryear – the Alfa GTV – which looks set to be attached to a high-performance hybrid – essentially a coupe Giulia.
The Giulia can already be had as a BMW M3 competing Quadrifoglio, and it looks like Alfa plan to take its 503bhp engine and give it a front axle electric boost to deliver something over 600bhp in total. Which should be enough to frighten the Mercedes C 63 S.
It all sounds very appealing; let’s just hope it comes to pass. Alfa’s plans aren’t exactly renowned for reaching fruition.
