BMW 8 Series Convertible & Gran Coupe confirmed for 2019
The new BMW 8 Series range will be expanded in 2019 with the arrival of the 8 Series Grand Coupe and 8 Series Convertible, confirms BMW boss Harald Krüger.
The new BMW 8 Series arrived in June as BMW revive their range-topping 8 Series for a new generation, delivering a car aimed not just at big luxury Coupes like the Mercedes S-Class Coupe, but also, say BMW, offering an alternative to cars like the Porsche 911.The new 8 Series becomes what the 6 Series was – BMW’s range-topping Coupe range – so the 8 Series Coupe is just the start, and two more models have now been confirmed for debut in 2019.
BMW Chairman Harald Krüger has announced that the new 8 Series Gran Coupe – previewed with a concept earlier this year – will arrive in production guise in 2019, as will the 8 Series Convertible, giving the new 8 Series range the same breadth as the outgoing 6 Series range – Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible.
Ahead of the arrival of the Convertible and Gran Coupe, it’s expected that the M8 Coupe will be revealed as a range-topper for the 8 Series Coupe, and Kruger confirms that there will also be M versions of the Grand Coupe and Convertible too.
That will give the choice of nine 8 Series models, with an M8, M850i and 840d versions of the Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible, and don’t be surprised to see a lower-power petrol version join the range too below the M850i.
