The new Alfa Romeo Giulia finally goes on sale in the UK
The Alfa Romeo Giulia – Alfa’s pitch at dethroning the BMW 3 Series – has finally gone on sale in the UK, priced from £29,180 to £59,000.
You would be forgiven for thinking the Alfa Romeo Giulia was already on sale in the UK.
After all, it was June 2015 when Alfa rolled out the range-topping Giulia Quadrifoglio with a spec and performance likely to disturb the Germans more than a little.
But five months later we learnt that Alfa had slowed down the actual launch of the Giulia, so we didn’t get the debut of the rest of the Giulia range until Geneva this year.
That was followed by a public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the Giulia in June, and the release of full specs and prices for the new Giulia in August. But still the Giulia didn’t go on sale.
But now, three months after the Giulia’s prices and specs were revealed, the Giulia IS on sale at Alfa’s UK dealers, with prices starting at £29k and rising to £59k.
That’s a chunk more than the main competition – the BMW 3 Series – but factor in the generous spec and the Giulia is very much in the game, with the choice of a couple of diesels and an appealing 197bhp 2.0 litre turbo petrol, as well as the delicious 500bhp Ferrari-designed 3.0 litre V6 turbo in the Quadrifoglio.
Damien Dally at Alfa Romeo UK said:
The all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia is a true driver’s car, offering beautiful Italian styling and stunning performance, and so we’re delighted to see strong early interest in the car. Passion and practicality combine in the Alfa Romeo Giulia; there’s never been more temptation to own an Alfa Romeo.
So it’s been a long haul, but you can now go to your local Alfa dealer and sign on the dotted line for a new Giulia. But we’re still not sure when you’ll actually be able to take delivery.
