Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante revealed
Aston Martin reveals the DBS Superleggera Volante, the convertible take on the DBS Superleggera with the same V12 and a price tag of £247,500.
It’s getting on for a year since the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera arrived to replace the Vanquish, and apart from a less than completely appealing interior it is a hugely desirable car with stunning performance – and a V12 under the bonnet. The DBS Superleggera is an aggressive Aston with looks which shout its intent, but somehow Aston has managed to make its new convertible sibling, the DBS Superleggera Volante, look more boulevardier than bruiser, despite being almost exactly the same car.
The only differences, apart from the obvious fabric roof – which will go up in 14 seconds and down in 16 seconds – are the new platform at the back which stores the roof and a slightly deeper side strake. But it’s enough to imbue the Volante with a different vibe.
Despite a couple of RJSs to keep structural integrity intact, the 715bhp V12 under the bonnet still manages to propel the soft-top to 62mph in the same 3.6 seconds as the Coupe, and go on to a top speed (roof up) of 211mph.
Inside everything is the same on the Volante as the Coupe, more’s the pity, although you do get a choice of six headliners to go with the choice of eight exterior colour options for the fabric roof.
The new DBS Superleggera Volante is priced from £247,500 with first deliveries due in Q3, when Aston hopes it can steal sales from the new Bentley Continental GT Convertible – which costs £75k less.
If only the Aston had an interior half as good as the Bentley.

Mark Geller says
You are so right about the interiors. Love the Superleggerra, but nothing on the planet can match the Bently GTC 12 for sheer luxe feel. What a tough choice …if you are loaded. Both will hit the double century, but one is like the Orient Express and the other is clearly like an Avenger ride. Different strokes for sure.
