BAC Mono: Fancy a Drive?

RS Academy – a track-driving car club – has taken delivery of the first two BAC Mono single seater cars.

Last month we reported on a new single-seat road car that offers more thrills than a garage full of hypercars for less than the cost of an M5 – the BAC Mono.

The brothers Briggs – Briggs Automotive Company – have created the beautifully built, finished and specified Mono as the world’s only single-seat production car (well, the only one that’s actually made it in to production, anyway).

Weighing no more than Kylie after a heavy diet, the Mono can scoot to 60mph in just 2.8 seconds before running out of steam somewhere around 170mph.

Sadly, Briggs are planning on building just 35 Monos this year, so the chances of grabbing a drive – always assuming you have £67k to spare for a toy – are quite small. But they’ve just gone up.

RS Academy – a track-driving car club – has just taken delivery of the first two BAC Monos and is planning on having them available to members to drive at track days this year in interesting venues like the Nurburgring, Ascari Race Resort, Paul Ricard and Spa Francorchamps.

Of course, if you want to go play at racing drivers you’ll have to sign up with RS Academy first, which although not cheap is a big chunk less than actually stumping up for your own Mono.

That said, if you do want your own Mono, you’ll need to get a shake on. We spoke to the BAC Mono dealers SuperVettura this morning, and they confirm that there are ‘just a handful’ of build slots left for this year.

Hardly surprising.
