For BMW anoraks, the arrival of the front-wheel-drive 2 Series Active Tourer was bad enough, but they’re going to have a hissy fit at the prospect of BMW’s latest model – the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer.
Looking the same as the Active Tourer at the front, the Gran Tourer gets longer back doors and a revised rear end, with a cabin that echoes that of the Active Tourer but with an extra row of seats and more room – up to 1,905 litres of stowage space with the seats down.
Under the bonnet there will be a choice of a pair of petrol engines – the 1.5 litre 3-cylinder 218i and 2.0 litre four-cylinder 220i – and three diesels – the 1.5 litre 3-cylinder 216d and the 2.0 litre with two power outputs in the 218d and 220d sDrive.

The Gran Tourer will debut at Geneva next month and be on sale at BMW’s UK dealers in the summer.
