BMW i5 ELECTRIC Tesla-Basher previewed by BMW’s i Vision Dynamics
The BMW i Vision Dynamics has been revealed in Frankfurt previewing the BMW i5, a Gran Coupe electric car with around 400 miles of range.
A few days ago we learnt the new BMW i5 was heading for Frankfurt, or at least a concept previewing the i5 was. Now, BMW has revealed the i Vision Dynamics Concept, a car which clearly previews the production version of the BMW i5 expected in the next three years.
It’s taken BMW some time to deliver a sensible look at what an i5 will offer – despite both the i3 and i8 being with us for some time – but what they’ve delivered is an impressive Gran Coupe BMW which should already be giving Elon Musk sleepless nights.
The proportion of the car are familiar BMW territory with short overhangs and flowing roof line, and with smooth surfaces and a properly elegant look.
There’s a sculpted bonnet, big glass roof, flush windows and even a new interpretation of the BMW nose with a new take on the Kidney Grille.
But what we all want to know is what’s under the skin of the i5 to be?
All BMW are saying is that it will have a range of getting on for 400 miles, a top speed of 120mph (top speeds and EVs don’t mix well yet) and will get to 62mph in under 4.0 seconds.
That’s all very good, but there’s no detail. So we have to assume that what the i5 will deliver is dependent on battery technology improvements in the pipeline.
Let’s hope they come to fruition in time for the i5 EV to arrive in 2020/1.
