The Ferrari 512S Modulo Concept is a Pininfarina vision which debuted at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, and it’s back for an appearance at Pebble Beach this month.
There are car concepts which are designed to preview a new car or model, and there are car concepts which are pure flights of fancy. The Ferrari 512S Modulo Concept by Pininfarina falls firmly in the the latter category.
Designed and built at Pininfarina’s Modena Style Centre in 1970, it debuted at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show to stun visitors with its vision of the future and showcase Pininfarina’s cutting edge design prowess.
But despite having a 512S chassis and a V12 lurking under the skin, it was never able to move under its own steam, and it was never designed to be driven, intended just as a design showcase.
But avid Ferrari collector Jim Glickenhaus had different ideas when he bought the Modulo Concept from Pininfarina in 2014, and his team set about making the Modulo in to a car you can drive, complete with a working V12.
Now, with the work complete, the Ferrari 512S Modulo is off to Pebble Beach this week where it will be on show at the Concours d’Elegance alongside more hugely desirable Ferraris.
Somehow, we think the Modulo might just stand out.
