Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium engine plant in Wolverhampton has been officially opened by the Queen and will start delivering new engines for the Jaguar XE early 2015.

Jaguar Land Rover new Ingenium Engine Plant opened
It’s been a generation since Jaguar Land Rover built an engine of its own, relying instead on outside suppliers to provide the engines that power their increasingly popular range of cars.
But that’s all about to change as JLR officially opens its new engine plant in Wolverhampton to build a new range of Ingenium engines to power the new Jaguar XE and Land Rover Discovery Sport – and no doubt other cars in JLR’s range too.
The new engine plant will be home to some 1400 staff dedicated to building JLR’s new engines – and a further 5500 jobs in the supply chain – with the £500 million plant covering 100,000 square metres and even producing 30 per cent of its energy needs from a huge solar array.
Ralf Speth, JLR boss, said:
The Engine Manufacturing Centre represents all that is great about British engineering.
Jaguar Land Rover is a business driven by design, technology and innovation and this investment and level of job creation is yet further evidence of our commitment to advancing the capability of the UK automotive sector and its supply chain.
The first engines off the line – in early 2015 – will be 2.0 litre diesels for the new Jaguar XE – in either 161bhp or 178bhp flavours – with further diesel and petrol versions following on. It’s thought the Ingenium range may also spawn a 3.0 litre 6-cylinder too in the future.
