Jaguar XF sales were up 95% in March, with XK sales up 25%. Overall sales were higher than in March 2009, despite no X Type or XJ sales.
We exagerate – but only just. Year on year sales of the Jaguar XF rose by 94.6% in March 2010 compared to March 2009. Which by any measure is impressive. Yes, the new registration helps but the same applied a year ago, albeit in the depths of the worst drop in car sales ever seen.
But there is no getting away from the fact that the Jaguar XF is a real success story. Not only have Jaguar built an extremely fine car, they’ve marketed it well (apart from the fact they don’t advertise on Cars UK – a simple oversight, we’re certain) and they’ve continued to develop the XF. We saw the XF Diesel S get a tweak or two recently – as did the whole range – to become a diesel XFR in all but name, and the entry-level XF had its price dropped below £30k.
But it’s not just the XF that has enjoyed sales success for Jaguar. Sales of the XK were up by 25% in March and overall sales were up by 1.1%. How much? I know, it doesn’t seem to add up with such big jumps for the XF and XK. But you have to remember that a year ago Jaguar were still churning out the X Type, and that the XJ was still being sold. The X Type is now gone and the new XJ hasn’t hit customer’s drives yet.
So half the model range and a total sales increase. None too shoddy.
