Lewis Hamilton WINS Canadian Grand Prix in a Mercedes One-Two – Vettel 4th

Lewis Hamilton wins the Canadian Grand Prix, leading from start to finish in a Mercedes one-two, to cut 4^th place Vettel’s championship lead.

Montreal’s Île Notre Dame circuit is something of a lucky place for Lewis Hamilton, and his sixth win at the Canadian Grand Prix saw him cut the deficit to Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to 12 points as he controlled the race from grid to pole in an impressive Mercedes one-two.

Mercedes power saw them dominate the more nimble Ferraris on a power circuit, helped by Max Verstappen taking a lump out of Vettel’s wing which left him down in 18^th place after changing it. The fact he clawed his way back to 4^th spot – behind the Mercedes of Hamilton and Bottas, and Red Bull’s Ricciardo in third – shows he’s still very much in the championship hunt this year.

After wrecking Vettel’s race at the start, Verstappen looked to be on a charge, but his engine gave up the ghost a few laps later, and although it took longer to break, Fernando Alonso’s Honda engine went the same way in another predictably awful outing for McLaren.

Behind the top four it was Perez  in fifth followed by Ocon, Raikkonen in the second Ferrari, Hulkenberg, Stroll and Grosjean in the last points place.

But it was a Mercedes comeback day in Canada, and all credit to the silver arrows for dominating proceedings. But don’t write Ferrari off.
