The Mazda MX-5 is the epitome of a fun and affordable roadster, which perhaps explains why it’s still going strong after 25 years and why Mazda revealed a special MX-5 at the New York Auto Show in April to celebrate – the Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition.
That may seem a very skewed balance of distribution but really, when you consider the MX-5 is the closest modern car to a traditional British Roadster you can get, it’s no surprise the Brits love an MX-5.
Based on the Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe 2.0 litre Sport Tech Nav, the 25th Anniversary special gets a Soul Red Metallic paint job, black door mirrors and A-pillars and a powered retractable hardtop.
There’s a set of 17″ Dark Gunmetal alloys, a rear diffuser and chrome exhaust trim plus the required limited edition numbered badging.
Inside titivation includes Stone leather, heated seats, contrast stitching, dark red dashboard, black rollover bar and a 6./1″ touchscreen Mazda Navigation system with Bluetooth, USB, CD, radio and DVD player as well as a 50:50 split screen for viewing two inputs at once (e.g. DVD for passenger and Nav for the driver).
The first Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of the month before going on sale on 1st August.
