McLaren F1 #073 LM spec up for sale
McLaren F1 chassis #073 is a rare F1 with LM spec upgrade by McLaren, and it’s up for sale at RM Sotheby’s new Private Sales Division.
As rare classic cars go, the McLaren F1 is one of the rarest, with just 64 road legal cars and five LM spec models originally built. And McLaren F1s fetch a great deal of money. This particular car – McLaren F1 #073 – is a car we already know after it crossed the auction block at RM’s Monetery sale in 2015 where it fetched over £10 million, and it’s back up for sale again with RM (now RM Sotheby’s), but it won’t be going across the auction block.
Instead, this McLaren F1 is being offered by RM Sotheby’s new Private Sales Division, effectively an in-house car brokerage), for what we expect will be a chunk more than the £10 million #073 fetched three years ago.
But this is a very special F1, with a factory upgrade by McLaren to LM spec – one of just two F1s upgraded this way – with the LM engine and Extra High DownForce package with bigger back wing and additional vents, but it also keeps the luxury road interior with GT-spec leather and Alcantara. So, in many ways, the best of both worlds.
RM Sotheby’s aren’t saying how much the owner of #073 wants for their car, but it’s likely to be a chunk more than the £12 million F1 #044 fetched last year, and it’s a more appealing buy than F1 #060 which has been punted around for several years as a ‘new’ F1.
