New 2015 MINI John Cooper Works revealed
The new MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works has been revealed ahead of its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show with a 228bhp 2.0 litre Turbo engine.
We’ve already had the new MINI Hatch and the new MINI five-door revealed, so it’s time to add a bit of performance gloss to the new MINI range with the arrival of the new 2015 MINI John Cooper Works, due to get a public debut at the Detroit Auto Show.
There will be the option of a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 6-speed auto, complete with flappy paddles, and the new JCW will be able to hit 62mph in 6.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 153mph. Thanks to shorter first and second gears the auto version of the new JCW will get to 62mph in 6.1 seconds.
Official economy is impressive – although unachievable in the real world – at 42.2mpg and 155g/km for the manual and 49.7mpg and 133g/km for the auto.
With the starting point of the Cooper S to build the JCW, this MINI starts life looking quite sporty, but the addition of 17″ alloys (and an 18″ option), new front bumper with bigger air intakes, new LED headlights, new wheel arch cladding, bigger sills, bigger roof spoiler at the back, a bigger back bumper and chrome tail pipes make the JCW look even more purposeful.
Inside the JCW gets better front seats, a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, new gear lever, revised graphics for the instruments, stainless steel pedals and Driving excitement Package.
On sale in the UK in April 2015, the new MINI John Cooper Works is expected to start at around £23,000 and will only be available as a three-door, at least for now.
