New Kia XCeed – Kia’s Crossover take on the Ceed – revealed
Kia reveals the first photo of the new Kia XCeed, a Crossover take on the new Ceed, ahead of a debut on 26 June 2019.
The new Kia Ceed (without an apostrophe) arrived a year ago, and since then we’ve also had the arrival of the new Kia Proceed, which turned out to be a very stylish Shooting Brake. What we also had, back in March, was the news that a new Ceed Crossover was on the way to join the Hatch, Sportswagon and Proceed so Kia could try and mop up sales from buyers who really want an SUV.
Whether what looks like a high-riding Ceed Hatch (in the image above) will be enough to convince buyers this is an addition to the Kia SUV range – sitting between the Stonic and Sportage – remains to be seen.
Kia are covering that by referring to the XCeed as a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV), claiming the elevated ride is enough to make it as practical as an SUV, but with a lower ride height than an SUV adding sportiness and a better driving position.
Emilio Herrera, Kia Europe COO, said:
The sporty design and demeanour of the new Kia XCeed CUV makes it more innately desirable than many taller, larger SUVs. Yet it offers this without compromising on versatility, with its intelligent packaging achieving the cabin and storage space of an SUV in a sportier body and more compact footprint.
Expect a similar range of engine options to the rest of the Ceed range, although you can expect a plug-in hybrid version too.
The Kia XCeed will be revealed on 26 June, and is expected to get a public debut at Frankfurt in the autumn.
