A new Porsche Boxster Spyder has been revealed at the 2015 New York Motor Show as the lightest, most powerful Boxster so far – with 370 bhp. Costs from £60,459.
It’s getting on for six years since the Porsche Boxster Spyder arrived sporting less weight and more power – and the iconic bulges behind the seats – and now it’s back for 2015, revealed at the New York Motor Show.
Porsche hasn’t messed too much with the recipe for the Spyder, so you still get a fabric roof that you need to open and shut manually, it still comes with just a manual gearbox as standard and there is still a paucity of home comforts. Oh, and it costs more than any other Boxster too – £60,459.
But if a hardcore Boxster floats your boat, the new Boxster Spyder looks a hoot.
With 370bhp from its 911-derived 3.8 litre flat-six engine, the Spyder can scrabble to 62mph in just 4.5 seconds – that’s half a second quicker than the Boxster GTS – and on to 180mph. It can stop too, thanks to brakes from the 911, and should get round bends with fettled sports suspension, lower by 20mm.
The ethos of the Boxster Spyder may be lightness and power – and Porsche doesn’t even let you have a radio if the £60,459 price – but this is business, so you can opt back in to stuff like music and Air Con if you want a few comforts.
The 2015 Porsche Boxster Spyder is now on sale in Porsche’s UK dealers, with first cars due in the summer.
