Singer – Porsche 911 Recreation Masters – deliver a new 911 964 Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS) option, with cars built by Williams in the UK.
Back in the summer, we reported that Porsche specialists Singer had teamed up with Williams Advanced Engineering to create a new air-cooled 911 engine, and now the fruits of their labours have become a reality. The engine is part of what Singer call the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS) Programme, offering a more extreme recreation of Classic 964 Porsche 911s.
Not only has Singer teamed up with Williams for this recreation, but up to 75 examples will be available – each custom built to the owners’ specifications – and made not at Singer in California, but at Williams in Oxfordshire.
But it’s not just Williams in the mix to create the perfect 911, Singer has had input from Michelin, Brembo, BBS Motorsport and Hans Mezger, as well as input on dynamics from Marino Franchitti and Chris Harris.
Under the lid is the new 493bhp air-cooled flat-six engine developed by Williams – with help from Hans Mezger – mated to a new six-speed manual gearbox developed by Hewland putting power to the rear wheels, which are clad in Michelin Pilot Sport 2 rubber.
But the car is not just a bit of titivation and a new engine, there’s also advanced aerodynamics created by Williams’ and their CFD expertise, lighter suspension with bespoke dampers and modified geometry, carbon Brembos and a set of 18″ forged magnesium BBS wheels.
Mazen Fawaz, MD of Singer’s DLS, said:
As is often the case at Singer Vehicle Design, we picked up the phone to companies whose reputation precedes them and explained the challenge. The response has been overwhelmingly positive.
We found a group of petrolheads, full of enthusiasm to help us with state-of-the-art design and materials. This restoration showcases some truly incredible engineering from around the world.
Singer are planning to re-build around 75 911s under the DLS Programme at Williams, and with each bespoke to the client no two will be the same.
There’s no indication on price, but if you go in with a million in your back pocket you might have (a bit) of change.
