In a list of the least depreciating cars in the UK, Glass’s has revealed that for 2010 seven of the top ten were SUVs
Well, I’ll go to the foot of our stairs, as my Dad might have said. Twelve months ago – at the height of the car-buying public’s obsession with frugality and the Scrappage Scheme – Glass’s Guide informed us that the lowest depreciating cars in the UK were Superminis – the likes of the Aygo, C1 and Swift.
A year on, a dose of proper snow in early 2010 (not the current fall) and the end of the Scrappage Scheme has seen the public return to their real love – the SUV. Not just proper SUVs, but softroaders too. In fact it’s a softroader – the VW Tiguan – that tops this year’s chart, retaining as it does 68% of its value over three years.
Featuring strongly in the best residual list are the products of Land Rover, with the Freelander 2 in fourth place, the Discovery in sixth and the Range Rover Sport in ninth.
Audi also feature well with three cars – the Q7, TT and A5 – in the list with Honda and MINI filling the other two places.
Rumour has it the flags on Friends of the Earth’s mud hut are flying at half mast.
