With the new Land Rover Defender now revealed to start from £45,000, it’s outside the price range of most buyers. But there is an alternative.
We’ve finally had the official reveal of the new Land Rover Defender this week, and it looks really rather good.
The trouble is, for many, that it’s a very long way from the original utilitarian Defender/ Series cars, and although Land Rover will be flogging a ‘Workhorse’ Defender 90 with steelies, you’ll still be paying more than £40k.
But the Land Rover Defender from JLR isn’t the only new Land Rover Defender launched this week – the new Lego Land Rover Defender has also launched, and it’ll cost you a much more reasonable £159.99 when it goes on sale on October 1.
But, you may be asking yourself, haven’t I seen the new Lego Defender before? And you’d be right.
Just as the new JLR Land Rover Defender leaked out on the James Bond set, so too did the Lego Defender, breaking cover back in June and giving us a proper look at what JLR had planned for their Defender.
Now it’s revealed, we know it’s a 1/16-scale Technic model with 2,573 individual pieces you can build at home, complete with functioning four-wheel drive, fully independent suspension and even a moving six-pot engine under the bonnet.
Even the gearbox has switchable low and high range there’s a roof rack and winch and proper Adventure Pack accessories like storage boxes too.
And you can buy it next month, whereas JLR’s version won’t arrive until 2020, and put it under the Christmas tree for the Defender lover in your life.
