BMW has declared that the new BMW i8 Supercar will be sold in more than 50 countries around the world and that the US, UK and Germany are likely to see most sales.

In a case of stating the obvious in a bid to keep interest in the BMW i8 high ahead of its debut at Frankfurt next month, Hendrik Wenders – the i8 product manager – has declared the biggest market for the BMW i8 will be the USA.
So, having stated the bleedin’ obvious, Herr Wenders goes on to explain that the i8 is intended to take sales from Audi and Porsche with a typical buyer being male, over 35, tech savvy, affluent and interested in driving responsibly (for that you can read ‘as tax efficiently as possible’). You don’t say?
But will BMW be able to get enough buyers from their target buyers interested in spending the wrong side of £100k for a car with modest performance (by supercar standards) but an immodest price tag?
Will buyers turn their noses up at an Audi R8 V10 or Porsche 911 Turbo to buy in to the idea that they can be ‘green’ for the same money in an i8, even if the performance is significantly poorer? BMW certainly seem to think so.
We can’t really see it.
