Vauxhall are teasing a new convertible – the Vauxhall Cascada – that appears to be Astra based but stretched and pushed upmarket.
We knew Vauxhall (and Opel, for that matter), were planning a replacement for the Astra Twin Top which we guessed would be the new Astrra Cabrio. But it’s not, it’s the Vauxhall Cascada.Vauxhall aren’t being exactly forthcoming on what underpins the Cascada, but its a chunky 225mm longer than the Astra Twin Top, longer even than an A5 cabriolet. So it’s not a compact. But it seems too small to be based on the Insignia, so we’ll have to assume it’s a stretched GTC.
With luxury appointments and a fabric folding roof, Vauxhall are heading upmarket with the Cascada to try and grab a piece of the market currently enjoyed by German convertibles, so we can expect the Cascada to come in at more money than the Astra Twin Top but less than an Audi A5 Cabriolet – Mid-£2ok?
But what of the Cascada name, a new one for Vauxhall. Well, at least it’s not a German cup of coffee (Mokka) or a German businessman (ADAM) this time, instead it’s Spanish for ‘Waterfall’.
Unfortunately, it sounds like a hairdressing product. Which could give us a clue to the target market?
