The Volvo V40 with Driver Support Package – has been awarded the safest used car buy in the UK by the Co-op for the second year in a row.
The current Volvo V40 may be coming to the end of its shelf life as Volvo get ready to launch their new 40 Series cars – with the new XC40 already being teased – but it’s still garnering safety gongs.
Last year it was awarded the title of the safest used car in the UK (when it has the optional Driver Support Package) by the Co-op, which partnered with safety experts at Thatcham to campaign for safer communities, and it’s a winner again this year.
To qualify for the award, cars have to be available on the used market for under £15k, have a five-star Euro NCAP rating and emissions of 120g/km. The V40 ticks all the boxes.
Add in the optional Driver Support Pack (which gives you stuff like blindspot warning system, adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning) and you have the safest used car on the road in the UK, say the Co-op.
James Hilton from the Co-op said:
We’re pleased to announce that the Volvo V40 has topped the list as Co-op’s Safest Used Family Car for a second year running, making it a safe choice for families looking to buy a second-hand vehicle.
Volvo scored the highest in a series of track tests conducted by Thatcham Research and once again produced unprecedented results.
None of which will do used sales of the V40 any harm, even with a new model on the horizon.
