700,000 SEAT & 1.2 Million Skoda cars affected by VW defeat device scam
We now know that in addition to 5 million VWs and 2.1 million Audis, there are 1.2 million Skodas and 700k SEATs affected by the VW defeat device software.
Slowly but surely VW are admitting just how many of the 11 million cars said to contain the defeat device software to scam emission test are on the roads around the globe. We already know that there are 5 million VW-badged cars and 2.1 million Audis, but now we learn that there are 1.2 million Skodas and 700,000 SEATs in the frame, as well as a further 1.8 million VW light commercial vehicles.
That looks to account for pretty much the entire 11 million illegal cars VW admitted too, so unless legislators around the world discover the scam went deeper – which does seem unlikely; what would be the point of VW continuing to lie? – it looks like we at least know what VW has to deal with.
The VW Group has been given until 7 October by the German government to come up with all the details not just of the affected cars by model, but also of the proposed fix. It will then be up to legislators around the world to decide if the fix is appropriate and acceptable.
In the meantime, VW has set up a new ‘VW Diesel Issues’ website – aimed, at the moment, at US owners – to try and allay concerns and proffer pertinent information.
