UK car checker for VW and Audi cars now LIVE
Both Volkswagen and Audi have created VIN checkers for UK owners of cars who want to see if their cars are affected by the VW emissions scandal. SEAT and Skoda expected soon.
It’s bad enough that VW has been scamming emissions tests for at least the last six years – delivering different emissions results in official test from those in the real world – but their slowness to attend to the understandable concern of owners of affected cars – those with the EA 189 engines used during EU5 tests – is unacceptable. But now, more than two weeks after the scandal broke, owners of Volkswagen and Audi cars do at least now have an online VIN checker to confirm if their car is caught up in the mess (Audi Defeat Device checker and VW Defeat Device checker). It’s believed that sites for checking both SEAT and Skoda are imminent.
All you need to do is grab your VIN (which you;ll find on your service book or at the bottom of the windscreen looking from outside) and you should get instant confirmation.
That said, it will make no difference to the feedback you get from VW; they still haven’t revealed a fix (although they have been given only until tomorrow (7/10) to outline it by German authorities) and, as their website says, they will contact owners of affected cars as soon as possible. But this won’t be a quick fix – it will take many, many months – perhaps even years – to sort out the mess.
