The 2018 BMW M5, with its 592bhp 4.4 litre V8 and BMW xDrive, goes on sale in the UK seven months after its debut, with prices starting from £89,645.
The 2018 BMW M5 was revealed in August last year complete with a very healthy 592bhp from its 4.4 litre V8, and a new four-wheel drive system. And now the new M5 is on sale in the UK priced from £89,645.The new M xDrive gives the new M5 levels of traction it’s never had before, but before you panic it can be turned in to a rear-wheel drive M5 at the push of a button so you can play hooligan if you wish (although BMW make it clear it’s supposed to be for Track use only. And, of course, all M5 owners will respect that).
The 592bhp from the 4.4 litre V8 gets the new M5 to 62mph in just 3.4 seconds (four-wheel drive has its benefits), with drive going through a new eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox with Drivelogic. It’ll push on to 155mph in no time, but if you want to go faster – 190mph – you’ll need to tick the M Driver’s Package box on the options.
The M5 gets all the cosmetic, go faster, look faster body mods you’d expect, and BMW has used CFRP for the roof and bonnet of aluminium to save a bit of weight, but despite that focus the equipment levels aren’t exactly hair shirt.
The big digital display from the regular 5-Series gets reconfigured for the M5, with almost all the dynamics system configured through the central touchscreen, centre console button and M-Sport steering wheel. You can even wave at it to get it to do what you want (keep your fingers crossed).
The M5 gets a red ‘Start’ button (just so you know it’s a ‘sporty’ BMW, and the steering wheel has ‘M1’ and ‘M2’ buttons controlling the driving settings.
M multifunction seats are standard, trimmed in Merino leather, with heating and memory, and there are some M-Specific colour options available – including Marina Bay blue metallic and matt Frozen Dark Silver or Frozen Arctic Grey.
The 2018 BMW M5 is now on sale at BMW’s UK M dealers.
