The Citroen C-XR concept has been revealed at the Beijing Motor Show as a preview of a new production Crossover/SUV from the Dongfeng Citroen joint venture.
The Citroen DS 6WR was revealed last week as a new SUV heading for the Beijing Motor Show, but it turns out it’s not the only Citroen SUV making a debut in Beijing.
With styling that says more SUV than Crossover – added butch bits, wide chunky nose and a statement grill – the C-XR looks production-ready, and although Citroen has done what it can to make the C-XR look like a proper SUV it appears it won’t be getting 4WD.
Instead, Citroen are fitting the C-XR with their Grip Control System which claims to give more grip on slippery surfaces with power from the 160 THP petrol engine driving the front wheels only, and the only gearbox choice is an auto.
With production for China likely to start in 2015, it seems inconceivable that Citroen will limit sales of the C-XR just to China.
Just like Hyundai’s ix25, we’d expect sales to start in China and start in Europe and the UK later, when you can expect the C-XR SUV to get the choice of diesel powerplants.
And add to the ever-growing choice of compact SUVs and Crossovers on sale.
