Aston Martin has teamed up with Zagato once again for another stunning concept car – the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato – heading for Villa d’Este.
Aston Martin has a long history of creating stunning cars with Italian design house Zagato, none more impressive than their 1960 DB4 GT Zagato, perhaps the most stunning car yet to come from their collaborations. Now, Zagato and Aston Martin have created the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato which, just like the V12 Vantage Zagato, is heading for a public debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como in Italy this weekend.
Based on Aston Martin’s current range-topping Vanquish, the Vanquish Zagato is instantly recognisable as an AM Vanquish, but with lots of design cues coming from Zagato’s history – like the subtle double bubble roof – and many from Aston Martin’s recent special cars – like the CC-100, Vulcan and One-77.
The bodywork on the car is made from carbon fibre, with big lumps of it used to keep the split lines unobtrusive, and there are new lights including round rear ones that shout Zagato, complete with the same LEDs as the Aston Martin Vulcan.
Other obvious influences include wing mirrors that look like the One-77, and a back end that is a lot like the new DB11 with retractable spoiler, and there’s also a set of quad exhausts at the back nestling in the carbon fibre sills which run right round the car.
Aston say the glasshouse wraps round like a visor, there are long side strakes – from front wing to door – just like the DB11 (and the CC-100) and that iconic double-bubble roof (originally designed so you could wear a crash helmet in the car) shouts Zagato from every pore.
Inside, the Vanquish Zagato is suitably titivated with Herringbone carbon fibre, anodised bronze and anodised leather, with a ‘Z’ pattern for the quilted stitching and a Zagato ‘Z’ on the headrests.
Aston Martin’s Marek Reichman said:
Over the years, we have developed and refined our own design language and we have always gone that little bit further with our special series cars like CC-100, One-77 and Aston Martin Vulcan. The Vanquish Zagato Concept shows how our two companies can come together and push the definition of Aston Martin design.
There’s no word about the Vanquish Zagato turning in to a limited run production model, but the V12 Zagato went in to limited production and we’d be very surprised if Aston Martin can resist the temptation to do the same with the Vanquish Zagato.
The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept will be on show at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este this weekend if you fancy a jaunt to Italy.
