The full price, model and specifications of the 2010 / 2011 Audi A1 range for the UK has leaked. Prices start at £13,145
It’s a bit early in the cycle of a new car model (Tease-Display-Tease-Motor Show-Tease-Wait-Tease-Models-Tease-Price) for us to have any real idea of how much the Audi A1 will cost when it hits UK roads later this year. But perhaps not.
An enterprising member at Audi A1 Net has posted what seems to be an entirely convincing set of price and model detail for the new Audi A1. And if they’re right, which seems highly likely, then they’re perhaps not quite as ‘Premium’ as we’d expected after Audi’s claim that the A1 is the “Only Premium car in its Sector’.
Starting point is the Audi A1 1.2 TFSI SE with a five speed manual, which has an OTR price of £13,145 and the top of the tree – at least for now – is the Audi A1 1.4 TFSI S-Line 7-speed S-Tronic at £18,280. Audi would claim that there are no comparisons to the A1, but it’s clear that Audi want a big chunk of BMW’s MINI market. So what’s the comparison like with the MINI?
Certainly in terms of power we’re not going to see anything to rival the MINI Cooper S – and certainly not the MINI JCW – until the Audi S1 makes an appearance in 2011. So in terms of power the closest comparison for the A1 1.4 TFSI S-Line is the MINI Cooper, at a list price of £14,090 – a huge disparity. But that’s probably unfair. In terms of spec you’re probably looking at the A1 1.4 TFSI Sport Manual as the comparable model, which lists at £15,345, a much less eye-watering 10% premium for the A1.
At the entry level, the MINI One starts at £12,730. The A1 1.2 TFSI SE starts at £13,145 – a modest 3.25% premium. The cheapest diesel? The Audi starts at £14,180 for the A1 1.6TDI SE. The MINI D starts at £15,185 so the entry-level diesel is less for the A1, but the comparable model is probably the A1 1.6 TDI Sport at £15,980.
The A1 comes at a premium in cost to the MINI – but not massively so. The full prices and specs are below so you can do any other comparisons you want.
After the reveal of the Audi A1 S-line in particular (and the Wankel-aided A1 e-tron reveal, which was very convincing) we must admit we do find the A1 very appealing. And now we know the prices are not completely barking, even more so.
