Bentley Continental Supersports - The fastest Bentley ever, Shows at Geneva '09

It’s official. Cars UK are now Green Car Fans.

How could it be any different. The Bentley Continental Supersports is the fastest Bentley ever made, and it has solid green credentials to boot. A perfect combination.

Bentley has released details of the car we knew was coming. Much trumpeting by Bentley over recent months about its Green campaign heralded the arrival of this extreme Bentley. And there were some big claims being bandied around by Bentley. And much to our astonishment and delight Bentley has matched, and exceeded, every one of what we all thought were much-hyped aims.

Effectively Bentley has done a Koenigsegg with the Supersports. They’ve taken an already massively powerful engine and sorted it to run on E85 (an 85/15 mix of Ethanol and Petrol), releasing huge extra amounts of power in the process. The output of the huge V12 jumps to 630bhp. Torque is a planet-turning 590lb/ft and the 0-60 time drops to 3.7 seconds. That’s right. 3.7 seconds for a huge 2 ton + car like this. Defies belief. It’s as quick as a Ferrari F430. Oh, and it also goes on to break the 200mph barrier.

Bentley has also pared down the weight on the car by stripping out the back seats, re-trimming the inside and adding ceramic brakes. This saves a fair bit of weight, but only about the same as the average Supermodel you’ll have in the passenger seat. But the news is the power (and of course the revival of the 1920s ‘Supersports’ moniker), and of course the headline ‘Green’.
