The Citroen DS Wild Rubis Concept – a full-sized SUV – has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Shanghai Motor Show this month.

Revealed this morning, the DS Wild Rubis Concept is a proper full-size SUV from the French car maker which, we assume, is being targeted primarily at China.
Citroen’s history in recent years with full size cars has been poor, with no one but the French themselves buying them in any sort of reasonable numbers. But with the car buyer’s passion for SUVs – even full sized ones – we could see Citroen deciding to put the Wild Rubis on sale in Europe if the feedback is positive. And we have to say. the Wild Rubis looks a decent effort.
Likely to go on sale in 2014 in China as the Citroen DSX, we think the Wild Rubis is built on the DS5 platform and is powered by a petrol engine and electric motor, with the electric motor driving the back wheels and the combination of the two power sources delivering something north of 230bhp.
At 4.7 metres long and 1.94 metres wide the Wild Rubis is about the size of the old Range Rover Sport or current VW Touareg, sits on 21″ alloys, has a front end inspired by Citroen’s Numero 9 Concept, chrome highlights, Jewel-like lights and a relatively squat stance for an SUV.
It looks a good effort from Citroen.
