Hyundai Nexo Hydrogen Crossover CLEANS London’s dirtiest roads
The Hyundai Nexo hydrogen fuel cell crossover has been running round London cleaning the air on the dirtiest of roads the capital offers.
The Hyundai Nexo FCEV, Hyundai’s latest hydrogen fuel cell crossover, will be available in the UK in 2019, and although it’s a hefty £60k to buy there could be some advantageous lease deals to be had for early adopters with a passion for a hydrogen-powered future.Already selling at twice the rate of the ix35 FCEV (where it’s already available), the Nexo FCEV is an impressive bit of technology wrapped up in an on the money crossover body, and will help Hyundai convince growing numbers that, despite the obstacles, there is a real future for hydrogen-powered cars.
As part of the Nexo’s launch in the UK market, Hyundai has teamed up with UCL in Clean Driving Month to map out London’s most polluted roads – roads in areas like Kings Cross, Westminster, Elephant & Castle and Deptford – and sent the Nexo out to do them a bit of a favour.
Remarkably, the air the Nexo gobbles up when it’s being driven get purified in the process, filtering out 99.9 per cent of fine dust PM as 26.9 kg of air is purified every hour. Hyundai recons that if 10,000 Nexos were on the road it would be the equivalent of planting 60,000 trees to reduce carbon.
Sylvie Childs, Hyundai’s Nexo Product Manager, said:
At Hyundai, we are committed to improving the efficiency and environmental performance of all our vehicles and have been investing billions in bringing a full range of low and zero emission vehicles to the market place. We believe that the availability of alternatives, like the NEXO fuel cell electric vehicle, will bring the UK closer to its zero emissions future.
However, the responsibility for this cannot only rest with us, the manufacturer. We need the government to invest equally in incentives and infrastructure that would enable Brits to have better choices when it comes to the car they drive and how it can fit into their lives.
As part of the clean driving push, Hyundai are also inviting Londoners to clean up their own streets by driving a Nexo round them. If you want to play, jump over to Hyundai’s Blog.
