Jaguar XE S and XF S V6 Supercharged option DROPPED
Jaguar is dropping the 3.0 litre V6 Supercharged engine from the XE and XF due to low sales and impending WLTP emissions testing. It’s effectively replaced by the 296bhp four-cylinder Ingenium engine.
The Jaguar XE and XF (and, for that matter, the Jaguar F-Pace, XJ and F-Type) have been available with a lower price, and lower powered, alternative to the 5.0 litre V8 Supercharged lump in the form of Jaguar’s Supercharged 3.0 litre V6. But no longer. The 2019 MY updates for the XE and XF – along with the new XE and XF 300 Sport models – signal the end of the V6 Supercharged in the XE and XF, effectively replaced by the 296bhp four-cylinder Ingenium engine sported by the new 300 Sport models.
The headline reason is that the V6 Supercharged models account for less than one in 50 of XE and XF sales, and delivering the four-pot engine with 296bhp brings almost as much performance as the S models, but at a slightly lower price point.
But those low sales probably make it cost ineffective for the V6 Supercharged lump get through the new WLTP emissions regulations in the UK and Europe so, just as with engines from other car makers, it’s simpler to drop the option. So expect the F-Pace, XJ and, perhaps, the F-Type to go the same way.
That said, American readers can still get the V6 Supercharged as the WLTP regulations don’t apply in the USA.
