Now 2.1 MILLION Audi cars confirmed with VW Defeat Device
Audi has revealed that there are 2.1 million Audis on the road around the world fitted with the VW Defeat Device including A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5 models.
We already know that there are some 5 million VW-badged cars on the road around the world fitted with the Defeat Device to scam emissions tests, and now we know there are another 2.1 million Audi models fitted with the same cheating software, including A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5 models after Audi confirmed its part in the scam.Of course, as we already know at least 11 million cars are affected, that still leaves another four million or so to be accounted for – unless it turns out the scam goes even deeper.
Audi has stated that the defeat device software has not been fitted to the latest Euro6 emissions standard cars.
In further developments, German media are reporting that the R&D heads of Audi VW and Porsche have been put on Gardening Leave as the scandal fallout continues, which does suggest that Porsche is in the firing line too as the 3.0 litre V6 TDI – used in the Porsche Panamera and Cayenne – will be dragged in to the scandal.
And as the pressure mounts still further on the VW Group, their shares fell a further 6.5 per cent this morning, adding to the loss of around a third in its stock market value last week.
