Subaru BRZ tS is the ‘Sporty’ BRZ STI with no more go

August 20, 2013 By Cars UK

The Subaru BRZ tS has been revealed in Japan as a limited edition BRZ with bolt on extras – but no more power – from STI (Subaru Tecnica International).

When we ran the tease photo for what appeared to be the Subaru BRZ STI, we did hope this would be the BRZ with more power.

After all, STI (Subaru Tecnica International) is the go faster bit of Subaru so it seemed to be pointing in the right direction, a direction lovers of the BRZ (and its sibling, the Toyota GT86) have been hoping for since it arrived – one with more power.

But this isn’t the Subaru equivalent of a BMW M or a Mercedes AMG, its more the equivalent of BMW Performance Parts, where Subaru’s STI division have kitted out a standard car with bolt on modifications and called it the Subaru BRZ tS.

So the BRZ tS gets a thicker driveshaft, a set of Brembo ventilated discs, 18″ aluminium wheels, a tweaked STI front spoiler, some STI logos, meatier suspension and a tweak to the exhaust and stability controls. Oh, and a few carbon and Alcantara bits on the inside.

Subaru are making just 500 BRZ tS models for Japan, and up to 250 will have a GT pack with carbon rear spoiler, Recaro Seats and black BBS Alloys.

It’s not the extra power we were hoping for in the BRZ, but we have no doubt the BRZ tS will feel a bit edgier and a bit more dynamic to drive.

The BRZ tS may not be heading to the UK, but you will be able to do something similar to your BRZ here with a range of ProR upgrades arriving for the BRZ as Subaru increase the number of BRZs it has available for UK buyers.

We’d still like a BRZ with a bit of forced induction, through. Please.
