Volvo XC60 is the 2018 World Car of the Year
The new Volvo XC60 has been declared the 2018 World Car of the Year at the New York Motor Show, adding to the awards the new XC60 has already received.
At the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, the finalists for the World Car of the Year were announced, with the battle for top honours to be fought between the Volvo XC60, the Range Rover Velar and the Mazda CX-5. To no one’s great surprise it’s the Volvo XC60 2018 Car of the Year.
The new XC60 is proving itself a class act – and a sales star – for Volvo, which is just as well when you consider the, quite ancient, previous XC60 was still the best selling SUV in its class in Europe right up to the end of its days.
But Volvo has managed to keep all that was great about the previous XC60 but throw in a big dose of the ‘Cool Volvo’ which arrived with the nw XC90, and do it in a more wieldy, but just as classy, package.
The award for World Car of the Year comes on top of the XC60 being voted 2018 UK Car of the Year, the 2018 USA SUV of the Year and the 2017 Car of the Year in Japan – a first for Volvo.
Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo CEO, said:
I am pleased to see our company’s product investments paying off. We are up against some tough competition, but this award for the XC60 show that Volvo has the right combination of design, connectivity and safety that appeals to customers across the world.
Now with the focus at Volvo on the new XC40, we can probably expect it to garner similar awards soon, to add to the 2018 European Car of the Year Award.
