Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante revealed – the Vanquish Zagato drops its top

The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante has been revealed at Pebble Beach to tempt buyers with an open-top take on the limited run Vanquish Zagato.

Back at Villa d’Este in March, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept was revealed as Aston Martin and Zagato continued their long love affair with a new collaboration car to add to the long list of previous Zagato Aston models, models including perhaps the most appealing Aston Martin ever, the 1960 DB4 GT Zagato.

Billed as a concept, there was little chance the Vanquish Zagato would stay just that, when the chance to cash in on a car that was not much more expensive to produce than a regular Vanquish but which could attract a price tag of up to £500k, would be too great to resist.

Surprisingly, it took Aston Martin a whole month to confirm the production run of the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato, limited to just 99 cars, likely to cost the thick end of £500k and coming with all the Zagato goodness of the concept faithfully bolted on as well as the 592bhp naturally aspirated V12 whose tenure at AML is drawing to a close.

What is equally surprising is that it’s taken Aston Martin a further two months to confirm the arrival of a convertible version – the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante – revealed at the North American temple of outrageously expensive (but hugely appealing) cars – Pebble Beach.

Just like the Vanquish Zagato Coupe, the Volante is a run of just 99 cars – with each likely costing over £500k – with all the Zagato components of the coupe intact, with the exception of the folding roof (taken from the regular Vanquish Volante) and cowls behind the driver and passenger evoking Zagato’s double bubble.

If you don’t mind paying a huge premium for the Zagato titivations, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante is a keeper. But they could already all be sold.
